ANNUAL MEETING -- JUNE 16th

JOHN MARSHALL, OUUF CHAIR, RECOVERING FROM HEART ATTACK
John Marshall, Chair of the Oberlin UU Fellowship, was resting comfortably at home at our presstime recovering from a heart attack. On Friday he recognized his own symptoms and sought prompt medical attention. In the interim his duties as Chair will be taken over by Vice Chair Tom Phinney, according to the OUUF Bylaws. John's name will not be in the lists for election of OUUF officers for 2002-03 at the June 16th Annual Meeting. We all join in wishing John a speedy and complete recovery.

OUUF PONDERS CALLING REVEREND ROLLINS
The Ministerial Search Committee needs to know what you think: Should OUUF call The Reverend Don Rollins, who conducted the May 19th Service, to be our minister? Come to at least one of the Fellowship meetings to be held after the programs on June 2nd and 9th. Everyone who wants to will be encouraged to share opinions.

Based on notes from these meetings the Ministerial Search Committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees at the latter's June 11th meeting. If the Committee makes a positive recommendation and the Board concurs, the question will be before the Annual Meeting on June 16th.

SINCE 9/11/01: THE WORK OF PROPHETIC CONGREGATIONS FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE
morning service 10:45 am - noon
James G. White, Service Leader

Out of the horrors of last September the soup kitchen in which I volunteer held several discussions about the underlying causes of the attack and the appropriateness of the responses of our government. We organized a thoroughly ecumenical conference last November to develop this discussion and are involved with the Riverside church in planning a much expanded event next November 22, 23, and 24 to examine the danger of widening war- fare and intensified repression. We expect participation by religious humanists, Jews, Christians, Muslims and a number of secular organiza- tions. All are welcome.

James White is Leader Emeritus of the Essex Society for Ethical Culture, he practices public interest law in Harlem with a focus on mental health issues and serves as legal advocate for the St. Mary's Episcopal Church Soup Kitchen. Jim has wonderful memories from his years in the UU youth group in his home town of Charlottesville, VA and is still a member of Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church there. He is a very new and proud grandpa of Gabriel Garrett White, age 9 months.

We welcome Jim to the OUUF pulpit.
