Sunday Service – “Teaching About Racism and Classism: Experiencing Community” Edie Fuchsman, David Locklear, Joanne Rahn

March 3, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Joanne Rahn, David Locklear, and Edie Fuchsman began teaching a group of teens about racism and classism at OUUF a few years ago.  This led to the formation of an ongoing group of about 15 young men from all neighborhoods and backgrounds in Oberlin.  We provided language and a framework for hard conversations.  Unlike most young men, they have kept their masks off and been vulnerable and authentic with one another.  This is a gift for all of us, including the facilitators, as we continue to present aspects of American life and oppression to reflect upon and grow from.

This service will give you a very small sliver of the experience, the community that they created, and how the facilitators have been impacted.

The subject matter is painful, but the work is connecting and inspiring!

NOTE: Due to the sensitive nature of this service’s topic, all children are invited to the RE space upon their arrival at the Fellowship. Youth are encouraged to attend the service. Thank you.
